ART STUDENTS
LEAGUE OF THE WEST INDIES
John Besante founded this program and opportunity. Mr. Besante was
born in Jersey City NJ and realized that he wanted to live and create in an
environment much different from the one he was born and raised in. He didnÕt
want to retire to south jersey or Florida. A self made man, painter and a naturalist
He bought this 11-acre pristine woodland in Jamaica West Indies and began to
plant and nurture the land soon to become Loveland bird and wildlife sanctuary.
John picked a spot in the world special to him, with a dream. His idea was to
start a place to heal and commune through art. It is a setting where one can
reconvene with nature; somewhere to be inspired and to create. A place where one can walk barefooted: a
place to recuperate and rest from everyday stress. Somewhere one can experience
the freedom to create at their own speed. It is a regenerative process using environment
and art-making as your tools. Jamaica is the island and the Blue Mountains are
the backdrop for this little oasis in the Caribbean.
